Transposing instruments sound different notes to what is written
Please note for a transposed midi file needing the notation to show also you will need to buy softwarer, we havent found any free software available ,,see one reasonably priced option option
MIDI NOTATE COMPOSER ( can download a demo too )
If you just want to trspose a particular part in sound ( not notation ) continue below
ALTO SAXOPHONES
I.e The note A on a alto saxophone sounds as a C ( this is called a minor third above - C is a minor thirs above A )
All the notes on the saxophone sound a minor thirs above
( The TRANSPOSING TUTORIAL will explain all common forms of TRANSPOSITION for all saxophones and CLARINETS clarinet TRUMPETS trumpet TROMBONES trombone and FRENCH HORN french horn )
So playing common written notation for all vocals and most other instruments if the transposing instrument had to play as written it would not "fit" with the other instruments
To play vocal or common instrument parts like guitar flute piano lines etc the solo first has to be TRANSPOSED for a transposing instrument
As 90% of written music is NOT TRANSPOSED , an essential skill for a transposing instrument player is learning how to transpose
Fortuntely with MIDI ( Musical digital inteface ) software this is no problem if you understand the software and have the correct software
MIDI is the standard format for PRINTING MUSIC, ARRANGING MUSIC FOR MANY INSTRUMENTS, COMPOSING MUSIC and so on
This TRANSPOSING TUTORIAL will:
1) show you graphically illustrated screen shots of a program and the steps to take to transpose MIDI files
2) give you the link to download the free music sequensing program neccessary to do the transpostion
Within 15 minutes of downloading any standard untransposed midi file, by following these steps you will have created
music playable along with the backing mid tracks oin your PC speakers. This will save you literally hours and days of theory as well learning to handle complexe MIDI sequencer programs
Another PRINTING MUSIC FROM MIDI FILES will show also in about 15 minutes you how to PRINT that midi file youve transposed and be able to play along from the Printed music.
Lets start right now with the TRANSPOSING TUTORIAL:

You can save it and and would get ready to open it in the program provided.
( or any other MIDI file of course you wanted to transpose the ALTO TENOR SOPRANO OR BARITONE SAXOPHONE or CLARINETS TRUMPETS TROMBONES and FRENCH HORN - all of which require transpostion as explained above for common sheet music not specifically written for that instrument )
BROWSE and OPEN the MIDI FILE AS FOLLOWS

TRANSPOSING TUTORIAL PAGE 2Now we can see the saxophone part which will need transposing amongst the other parts, as well as when the saxophone part is played, and we can listen to it again in this program.
TRANSPOSING TUTORIAL PAGE 3Here we take the first step seperating MIDI data . In this case we highlight the saxophone part which we want to transpose.
